Acute and chronic pain along with lingering injuries can make daily life and activities difficult. Don’t let pain be at the forefront of your life. Get back to doing the things you enjoy.
Interferential Current Therapy (IFC) and Neuromuscular Stimulation (NMES) are two of the most commonly used modalities in the physical therapy industry. IFC and NMES are now available in a portable device called the Comfortwave, which can be used in the comfort of your home or at work. This device can be used multiple times daily to help alleviate pain, promote recovery, and it reduces muscle spasms and weakness at a fraction of the cost of other therapy methods.
IFC and NMES are different than TENS because they actually treat the pain, increase circulation, decrease edema, and help accelerate recovery. TENS therapy is used to block pain signals and requires continual use whereas IFC and NMES are used in 30 minute sessions. This allows the patient to have more flexibility with lasting results. The Comfortwave has the ability to treat pain, edema, muscle spasms, muscle weakness and muscle disuse atrophy; TENS units are primarily used to only block pain.

Interferential Therapy:
Many people are familiar with Muscle Stimulation but most people have no idea what Interferential Current Therapy is. IFC is characterized by crossing two medium independent frequencies that work together to effectively stimulate large impulse fibers. This current can penetrate deep within the tissue without resistance at the peripheral layer (skin). Because of its deep penetration it creates a physiological effect at the cellular level. This allows for a reduction in edema, pain relief and an increase in blood flow, which can help expedite recovery.
Common uses are as follows: Pre and post orthopedic surgery, joint injuries, cumulative trauma disorders, soft tissue injuries, edema, chronic and acute pain, sprains and strains, muscle spasms and to help increase circulation at various origins.
